training

WHSAC runs courses for divers of all levels. Courses for trainee divers are run most years. Typically, the course starts with lectures and pool work from January to March. Lectures cover the theory and practice of diving. Pool work aims to build confidence and skills in the water with both snorkel and SCUBA gear. A limited number of pool training kits are available for this.

As soon as weather permits, training is moved to local shore diving sites. SCUBA gear will be needed to proceed to this level of training. Trainees complete their snorkel and SCUBA tests in the sea.

All our courses are developed and approved by the Irish Underwater Council (CFT) and conform to internationally recognised standards. Check the CFT website for full details of courses or contact us with any specific questions.

PADI trained divers

There are two main diving organisations responsible for the regulating and certifying qualifications: PADI and CMAS. Both organisations provide internationally recognised qualifications. However, there are some differences in how that training is provided. Waterford Harbour Sub Aqua Club is affiliated to CMAS. If you are already PADI qualified, contact us directly to discuss how that might ‘translate’ into CMAS certification.

WHSAC uses only the safest, most reliable equipment in our boats. Go to the Equipment page for details.
